About Us

DurbaneyeDoctor is an Ophthalmology practice run by Dr Naren Chetty. It compromises two practices based in Durban North and Cato Ridge. Consulting days are currently Wednesday and Friday at Durban North and Monday and Thursday at Cato Ridge.

Operations are performed at different facilities that include DurbanEye Hospital, EThekwini Hospital, Ribumed Hospital and Cato Ridge Private Hospital.

We are contracted to major medical aids and no co payments are currently charged. Additional tests charges are always discussed with patients prior to undertaking.

About Dr Chetty

Dr Chetty first was exposed to ophthalmology when he served as a Surgical House Officer in Ophthalmology at Taranaki Base Hospital in New Zealand. He returned to South Africa as a medical officer in Ophthalmology at Edendale Hospital eye unit and thereafter served as a Registrar at Greys Hospital and St Aidens Hospital eye unit where he was also involved in the the Red Cross Air Mercy flying doctors program.

He was admitted as a Fellow of the College of Opthalmologists in 2009/2010 and continued as a consultant at Greys Hospital by sub specialising in retinal surgery. He has co authored in journals and has served as an examiner for Colleges of Medicine South Africa. He practices in Durban North and Cato Ridge and continues as a part time Consultant to Greys involved in registrar training.

Outreach Initiative

Our Outreach initiative helps those in need of eye surgery who are not medical aid and cannot afford the procedures.This initiative is carried out annually in an effort to assist those in need.
